A Bold Initiative to Promote HIV/AIDS Awareness

When the management at CITCO was planning to revamp its bar at Kalagram, it wanted to link it to a social cause as part of its CSR. It wanted to champion a cause that would generate an immediate response from the public. Reportedly, CITCO came up with the idea to espouse the cause of HIV awareness after it was approached by some NGOs in the area that were dealing with issues concerning HIV/AIDS. Drawing inspiration from a condom-themed bar in Amsterdam (Netherlands), it decided to open a bar with 'condoms' and 'safe sex' as the theme...

The Ambience of the Bar

The Condom Bar was a unique bar-cum-discotheque. It was conveniently located on the highway to ensure visibility and easy access. Bir said, "I chose this place because it is on the highway and is easily accessible."CITCO took care that the ambience of the bar was in consonance with the theme. Everything in the bar strove to aesthetically convey the message that a condom was the most important tool for protection against HIV transmission.

The entrance to the bar bore the words 'Condom Bar' in bold letters. Customers were allowed entry to the bar for a basic cover charge from which the cost of the food and drinks was deducted...
